Volleyball Falls to Binghamton in Home Opener

NEW YORK – Playing their first game at the Rose Hill Gym of 2024, Fordham University Volleyball fell to Binghamton in straight sets Friday afternoon.

Taking a five point lead at the media break, the Rams would see Binghamton continue to pull away, taking a 25-14 win to start things off. Set two would see the Bearcats take an early lead, and despite Fordham cutting into that lead midway through, would take a 25-16 win to go up 2-0 in the match.

A closely contested third set had the two sides tied at 11-all, and would remain close throughout, with the Bearcats winning the third frame by six to take the match in straight sets.

Whitley Moody would pace the offense with eight kills, ahead of both Sophia Kuyn and Audrey Brown with six apiece. Leading the assist numbers was Whitney Woodrow with 15 of 23 for the Rams, while Ryan Naumann tallied 15 digs to lead the defense.

Jumping out to a 13-9 lead, Binghamton would extend its lead throughout the opening frame, with the Bearcats taking set one 25-14. The visitors would extend a six point lead early in the second, but a resilient Rams offense would battle its way back, helped in part by a four point run to get within two points at 14-12.

From there Binghamton would begin to extend its lead again, taking a nine-point win to take a two-set lead in the afternoon. A tight third set would see the teams level through the first 20 points, and Fordham would hang around for the entirety of the set, before falling 25-19 down the stretch, as the Bearcats claimed the win in straight sets.

The Rams are back in action tomorrow to close the Rose Hill Classic in a battle of the Hudson against Seton Hall. First serve is slated for 4:30 p.m. following the first game of the afternoon between Binghamton and West Virginia.
