Men’s Soccer Plays No. 17 Hofstra to Scoreless Draw

Rams record a nationally ranked result to kick off 2024

HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. – Opening its 2024 season on the road against No. 17 Hofstra Thursday night, the Fordham men's soccer team outplayed the Pride on its way to a scoreless draw at Hofstra Soccer Stadium.

The result marked the third straight season that Fordham has played a ranked opponent to a tie.  Last October, Fordham held level with No. 18 Hofstra in the Bronx a year after drawing with No. 16 Providence in the second game of the 2022 campaign.

Fordham registered 14 shots, five of which were on goal, to Hofstra's nine chances, four of which found their target.

Graduate student Carter Abbott logged the fourth shutout of his Fordham tenure, stopping all four shots on goal that he faced.  Benji Jones, Thomas Gray, Jed Dixon and Luca Bernoth all played the full 90 minutes on the backline in front of Abbott.

Daniel D'Ippolito was the Rams' most active player in the attacking third, taking a game-high six shots and placing two on net.  Villanova transfer Luke Pompliano took four shots in his Fordham debut, including a pair of close-range chances in the 70th minute that were turned aside by Hofstra keeper Filippo Dadone.  Lucas Hackaa took two shots while Gray and Daniel Lang added one apiece.

The Rams will return to action on Wednesday, Aug. 28, with a trip to Sacred Heart.  The game will be streamed live on NEC Front Row.
