Bronx, N.Y. – Since we're a few days into the 2024 Fordham football camp it's time to start our position-by-position breakdown of the Rams, starting with the quarterbacks.
Unlike last year when the Rams entered the season without a proven starter, this fall Fordham has one of the top quarterbacks in the NCAA FCS in junior
CJ Montes, who was recently named to the preseason watch list for the 2024 Walter Payton Award, presented annually to the national offensive player of the year in Division I FCS college football.
A preseason All-Patriot League pick, Montes is coming off a 2023 season in which he was a Walter Payton Award finalist. He completed 241 of 376 passes for 3,000 yards with 26 touchdowns and just one interception. Montes, who also ran for three scores, led the Patriot League in passing yards and passing touchdowns.
The Fordham quarterback room is crowded this year with five other Rams, led by junior
Jack Capaldi, who served as the backup to Montes last year.
Also back for the Rams is junior
Joe Mikol, the 2021 New Hampshire Player of the Year.
Newcomers at quarterback for Fordham include freshmen
Tripp Holley, who recorded 1,927 passing yards and 20 touchdowns as a senior at Lake Highland High School in Dallas,
Thomas Rosso, a three-time First Team All-CIF pick at Chadwick High School in California, and
Rocco Grillo, an All-FCAIC selection at Greenwich High School last year.
Season and individual game tickets for the 2024 home season are now on sale through the
Fordham Athletic Ticket Office.
