Veteran guard spent two seasons at UNLV, one at Duquesne

BRONX, N.Y. – Fordham Men's Basketball Head Coach Keith Urgo has received his program's second transfer commitment of the spring, as Jackie Johnson III has signed on to join the Rams in 2024-25.

"We're so excited to welcome Jackie and his family to Fordham," said Urgo.  "Jackie is a proven talent with considerable experience who can help us immediately in multiple facets of the game.  He's proven that he can excel in the Atlantic 10 and we can't wait to see him do it again."

A native of Wichita, Kan., Johnson spent his freshman year at Duquesne in 2021-22 before transferring to UNLV for the past two seasons, a span during which the Runnin' Rebels went 40-26
This past season, Johnson contributed to a UNLV team that went 21-13, reached the quarterfinals of the NIT and finished fourth with a 12-6 record in the six-bid Mountain West.  He appeared in all 34 of UNLV's games, averaging 5.4 points in 14.7 minutes per game while shooting 41.0 percent from the field and 34.4 percent from beyond the arc.  Johnson finished in double figures nine times, including a season-high 17 points on 5-of-7 shooting from three-point range against Richmond at the Sunshine Slam in Daytona Beach.

As a sophomore, Johnson made 25 appearances, averaging 6.3 points per outing on 40.3 shooting, including a 33.3 percent clip from downtown.  He sank 21 of his 26 tries from the charity stripe, good for 80.8 percent.  He reached double figures seven times, including six of his first eight games with the Runnin' Rebels.

Johnson spent his first collegiate season in the Atlantic 10, averaging 9.5 points per game as a freshman at Duquesne in 2021-22.  He started 11 of his 30 appearances for the Dukes with 13 double-figure outings.  He shot 42.4 percent from the field, 37.3 percent from beyond the arc and 77.6 percent from the free throw line.  Johnson had a number of memorable performances as a freshman in Duquesne, including a 30-point outburst at George Washington and a pair of 27-point showings against UMass and Weber State.  In two games against Fordham, Johnson averaged 11.0 points while shooting 44.4 percent from deep.

A three-star recruit according to 247Sports, Johnson played his final season of prep basketball at Hargrave Military Academy (Va.) in 2020-21, averaging more than 27 points and six assists per game while leading the team to a 31-1 record.  He scored 1,347 points in his first three high school seasons at Wichita North and Wichita Southeast.
