Baseball Ends Season at St. Bonaventure

Rams’ Comeback Falls Short in Season Finale

St. Bonaventure, N.Y. – (May 18, 2024) – St. Bonaventure's Noah Czajkowski struck out eight batters over six innings, as the Bonnies completed a three-game sweep of the Fordham Rams with a 6-5 win at Fred Handler Park.
 
Fordham opened with a 2-0 lead in the third inning on RBI-singles by Daniel Bucciero and Madden Ocko.
 
St. Bonaventure quickly tied the game in the bottom of the frame with a sacrifice fly by Jayce Tharnish and an RBI-single by Jackson DeJohn.
 
The Bonnies then went ahead, 3-2, courtesy of a bases loaded walk to Jagger Darakjy in the bottom of the fifth.
 
St. Bonaventure extended the lead to 6-2 in the sixth inning. First, Adam Rankie was hit by a pitch and scored on an RBI-triple by Tharnish.  Jack Putney then hit a two-run home run to right to score Tharnish.
 
Fordham pulled within two in the seventh, which began with Michael Brueser being hit by a pitch and moving to second on a wild pitch.  Ryan Thiesse then doubled down the left field line to score Brueser.  After a bunt moved Thiesse to third, Daniel Buccciero plated Thiesse with a sacrifice fly to center.
 
The Rams then made it 6-5 in the eighth inning.  T.J. Wachter singled through the right side with two outs and stole second.   After heading to third on a wild pitch, Matt Dieguez reached on an infield single to score Wachter.  Dieguez ending up at third as the tying run after a stolen base and a wild pitch, but Jack Vallario flew out to right to end the frame.
 
St. Bonaventure's Tristan Ciampa recorded the final three outs for his fifth save of the season to finish the game at 6-5.
 
For Fordham, Thiesse was 1-for-3 with a double and two runs scored, while Steve Luttazi was 2-for-3.  Bucciero also drove in two runs, going 1-for-3.
 
Fordham ends the season with a 19-33 record, 10-14 in the Atlantic 10.
