Baseball Drops Series Finale to Richmond

Daniel Bucciero Hits Third Home Run of the Season

Bronx, N.Y. – (April 7, 2024) – Richmond's Aaron Whitley recorded the go-ahead two-run single in the top of the eighth inning, while Cole Hentschel recorded the final six outs, as the Spiders took the series finale from the Fordham Rams, 6-2, at Houlihan Park on Sunday.

With the loss, Fordham falls to 11-19 on the year, 3-3 in the Atlantic 10, while Richmond improved to 13-18 overall, 3-3 in the league.

The score was 1-0 in favor of Richmond for most of the game, as the Spiders netted a run in the third inning, when Jake Topolski was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to force in a run.

The Rams then snagged a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the seventh.  Chris Genaro drew a lead-off walk and was followed by a two-run home run to left by Daniel Bucciero, his third of the season.

Richmond came right back to retake the lead in the eighth on a two-run single by Aaron Whitley and then added three runs in the ninth for a 6-2 advantage.

Fordham tried to rally in the bottom of the ninth, loading the bases with one out on two walks and an infield single.  However, Cole Hentschel struck out the final two batters to secure his fourth save of the year.

Aric Berg (3-4) took the loss for Fordham, allowing five runs on six hits with six strikeouts over 2.2 innings of relief.  At the plate, Bucciero was 2-for-4 with a double, a home run, and two RBI, while Cian Sahler also had a pair of hits.

Fordham will next be in action on Wednesday, April 10th, as the Rams travel to Columbia for a 3:30 PM start.
