Bronx, N.Y. – (April 20, 2024) – Fordham's
Daniel Bucciero tied a career-high with five RBI, while
Robbie Stewart threw five innings of relief with four strikeouts, as the Rams recorded an 8-4 win over Saint Louis to even their Atlantic 10 series at Houlihan Park on Saturday.
After Saint Louis opened with a 2-0 lead with single runs in the first and third innings, Fordham answered with a three-run third inning for a 3-2 lead.
Henry Pelinski led off with a double and scored on a one-out single by
Daniel Bucciero. After Bucciero moved to third on a double by
Ryan Thiesse,
Andrew Kanellis tied the game with an RBI-infield single, while a wild pitch gave the Rams the lead.
The Rams then tacked on four runs in the sixth inning for a 7-2 advantage. The big hit of the inning was a three-run home run to left by Bucciero, his fourth of the season. Kanellis also added his second RBI-single of the afternoon in the rally.
The Billikens scored twice in the seventh to pull back within three at 7-4, but a fly ball that got lost in the sun turned into an RBI-double for Bucciero in the bottom of the frame to push the score to 8-4.
Fordham reliever
Robbie Stewart (1-0) worked out of trouble in the ninth, leaving two runners aboard to pick up his first win of the season. He allowed two runs on three hits with four strikeouts over five innings of relief.
Aidan Dowd pitched the opening four frames giving up two runs on three hits with three strikeouts.
At the plate, Bucciero was a triple shy of the cycle, going 3-for-5, and tied a career-high with five RBI. Kanellis went 3-for-4 with a pair of RBI, while
Steve Luttazi and Thiesse each had two hits and two runs scored.
Cian Sahler also had a pair of hits, extending his hit streak to 14 games.
The rubber game of the series between the Rams and Billikens is set for 12:00 PM on Sunday.
