Queens, N.Y. – (March 25, 2024) – St. John's Mario Pesca struck out eight over 6.2 innings, while Jackson Tucker had three hits and three runs scored, as the Red Storm took the rubber game of a three-game series against the Fordham Rams, 8-2, at Kaiser Stadium on Monday.
St. John's (17-5) opened the scoring in the bottom of the first inning, taking advantage of a Fordham error that led to a two-run single by Ben Beauchamp.
The Red Storm then added single runs in the third and fourth innings, extending the lead to 4-0.
Fordham (8-15) then got on the board in the top of fifth, when
Steve Luttazi hit a solo home run to right field, his third of the season.
St. John's answered with three runs in the sixth to push the lead to 7-1, highlighted by an RBI-single by Jackson Tucker.
The Red Storm tacked one a run in the seventh, while Fordham scored once in the ninth for the 8-2 final. The Rams loaded the bases on singles by
Henry Pelinski and
Christian Ovecka and a walk to Luttazi with Pelinski scoring on a ground out by
Cian Sahler.
Aidan Dowd (1-1) took the loss for the Rams, allowing three unearned runs over three innings of work.
The Rams will next be in action on Wednesday, March 27
th at Stony Brook for a 3:00 PM game.
