Athens, Ga. – (March 23, 2024) – Fordham junior swimmer
Ainhoa Martin's stay at the 2024 NCAA Women's Swimming & Diving Championship wrapped up on Saturday at the Jack Bauerle Pool at Gabrielsen Natatorium on the campus of the University of Georgia.
Fordham's first NCAA qualifier since 2012, Martín competed in the 200 individual medley on Thursday morning and the 200 breaststroke on Saturday morning, setting personal-best preliminary swims in both events.
On Thursday, she finished seventh in her heat and 56
th overall out of 68 swimmers in the 200 individual medley preliminaries, clocking in at 1:59.24. Then on Saturday, she placed 38
th overall out of 62 swimmers in the 200 breaststroke in a time of 2:11.24. In her heat, she finished fourth ahead of swimmers from Texas A&M, George Washington, Auburn, and Texas.
Her performance at NCAA's caps an outstanding season for Martín, who became the first Fordham swimmer to win three individual gold medals at the Atlantic 10 Championship. In addition to event wins in the 200 breaststroke and 200 individual medley, she also won the 400 individual medley event and received the Atlantic 10 Championship's Most Outstanding Performer Award, becoming the second Fordham woman to win that accolade.
