CHARLOTTE, N.C. (Mar. 2, 2024) – Another rain riddled weekend saw the Rams play just one game on day one, before Fordham University Softball fell in a pair of games on day two of the Queen City Classic in North Carolina.
For the third weekend in a row, inclement weather would affect the Rams, moving both games on Day one up three hours to an early morning start just after 9:00 a.m. Friday to open the tournament.
Michaela Carter and Devon Miller would plate a pair of runs to open game one against Minnesota in the top half of the first. The Golden Gophers would answer back in the bottom half of the frame, before weather paused the game midway through the third. When the sides returned to action Minnesota would strike first, taking a 10-4 win in five innings.
The Rams were slated to play a second game against Kentucky, but that game was suspended due to rain before being scored as an official game, only making it through the first inning before play was paused.
On day two, the Rams would add a second game against Minnesota in the morning before taking on UNCW as part of their original schedule for the Queen City Classic this weekend.
After the Golden Gophers notched a home run in the top of the first, Bailey Enoch would bash her second dinger of the year on a solo shot in the bottom of the frame to level the score. Sydney Wells would make it 2-1, Fordham early on with a double to right field. Enoch would tally her second RBI of the day in the fourth, ahead of a Mikayla Swan base knock as the Rams fell to Minnesota 10-4.
Game two against UNC Wilmington, would be a pitchers duel throughout, with Miller giving up just two runs in a full seven innings pitched, but Fordham would fall 2-0 to the Seahawks Saturday afternoon.
The Rams will close the Queen City Classic tomorrow with a single game against Kentucky at 10:00 a.m. Sunday morning.
