Baseball Drops Twinbill at Wofford

Same Two Teams Conclude Series on Sunday

Spartansburg, S.C. – (March 2, 2024)  After getting rained out on Friday, the Fordham baseball team played a doubleheader on Saturday afternoon, dropping both contests to Wofford at King Field in Spartansburg, South Carolina.

Fordham (2-7) had a battle in game one, falling to the Terriers, 6-3, as all six runs for Wofford came on home runs.

The Rams opened with a 1-0 lead in the first, picking up a run on an error, before Wofford tied the game in the bottom of the inning on a lead-off home run by Marshall Toole.

Fordham then regained the lead in the second, as the Rams loaded the bases and scored a run when Ryan Thiesse was hit by a pitch.

Wofford then took a 3-2 lead on solo home runs by Brice Martinez and Tyler Hare in the fourth and fifth innings, respectively.

The Rams got in on the long ball action in the top of the eighth, when Andrew Kanellis hit a solo home run to right center, his second of the season.  The Terriers answered in the bottom of the frame, as Gunnar Johnson hit a three-run home run to left to put Wofford ahead for good at 6-3.

For Fordham, Aric Berg (0-2) took the loss, allowing three runs on three hits in two innings of work.  Declan Lavelle received a no-decision, giving up three runs on five hits with three strikeouts over six innings.  At the plate, Thiesse was 2-for-4 with an RBI, while Daniel Bucciero and Chris Genaro each had two hits.

The second game of the doubleheader went sideways quickly for the Rams, as Wofford scored ten runs in the first and winning the game by a 29-3 score.

All three runs for the Rams came in the sixth inning on a two-run double by Michael Brueser and a fielder's choice by Jack Vallario.

Wofford's Dixon Black led the charge, going 3-for-3 with five runs scored and two RBI, while Toole and Andrew Mannelly each drove in four runs.

For Fordham, Aidan Dowd has the best pitching performance out of the bullpen in his debut, allowing one hit over 2.1 innings with seven strikeouts.  At the plate, Henry Pelinski registered the lone multi-hit game, while Brueser was 1-for-2 with a double, a run scored, and two RBI.

The same two teams conclude their series on Sunday with a 1:00 PM game.
