(March 12, 2024) – After using a thrilling second-half comeback to take down Davidson on Tuesday afternoon, the Fordham men's basketball team will resume play in the Atlantic 10 Men's Basketball Championship on Wednesday when it meets fifth-seeded VCU in the tournament's second round.

The Battle of the Rams will come just 24 hours after Fordham captured a victory over Davidson in the opening round of the conference tournament at the home of the Brooklyn Nets.  Trailing by as many as 13 near the midway mark of the second half, Fordham forced overtime on a Kyle Rose bucket with just two seconds remaining before scoring the first seven points of the extra period to pull away from the Wildcats.

With five steals against Davidson, Rose moved into sole possession of fifth place on the Fordham all-time steals list (218).  He passed Dave Maxwell, who tallied 217 thefts from 1979-1983.

Sophomore Will Richardson scored 17 of his season-high 20 points after halftime while classmate Joshua Rivera tallied 14 points on 6-of-7 shooting.
Abdou Tsimbila narrowly missed his fifth double-double of the season with nine points, 10 rebounds and two blocks while Antrell Charlton added nine points, six rebounds and four assists.

With the win, Fordham has advanced to at least the second round of the A-10 Tournament for the third straight season.  In 2021-22, the Rams received an opening round bye and defeated George Mason to punch a ticket to the quarterfinals.  Last season, Keith Urgo's first as head coach, Fordham earned a double-bye before reaching to the semifinals with a win over La Salle.

Fordham will look to reach the quarterfinals of the Atlantic 10 Men's Basketball Championship for the third straight season and just the sixth time overall in program history.
The winner of Wednesday's second round matchup will face fourth-seeded UMass in Thursday's second quarterfinal at 2 p.m.

Fordham and VCU will meet for the second time in the postseason. The first contest came in the second round of the 2015 A-10 Tournament, a 63-57 VCU win in which neither team led by more than six points the entire way.

Fordham and VCU will meet for the 15th time in the history of the two programs.  The Bronx Rams' only win in the series came in January of 2017 at the Rose Hill Gym.  The Rams from Richmond won earlier this season in the Bronx, defeating Fordham, 75-60, on Feb. 6.
