Winston-Salem, N.C – (February 18, 2024) – Illinois' Regan Hall struck out nine batters over six innings to lead the Illini to a 9-1 win over the Fordham Rams at David Couch Ballpark in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
Fordham (0-3) got off to a good start, taking the initial lead of the game in the top of the second.
Steve Luttazi connected on a solo home run to right center, his second of the season.
Illinois answered with a pair of runs in the third inning, highlighted by an RBI-single by Cal Hezja.
After an RBI-groundout in the fifth made it 3-1, Illinois struck for five runs in the sixth inning for an 8-1 advantage. The inning was highlighted by a solo home run by Ryan Moerman and a two-run double by Coltin Quagliano.
Illinois closed out the scoring in the eighth with a solo home run from Cameron Chee-Aloy.
Fordham struggled at the plate, managing only two hits off Illinois pitching. Beside the Luttazi home run, the other hit for the Rams was an infield hit by
Ryan Thiesse.
Dominic Cunha took the loss on the mound, allowing two earned runs on three hits over five innings of work.
The Rams are next in action on Friday, February 23
rd against Army. The game will be played at Stetson University in Deland, Florida.
