Rams Defeat UMass for Second Straight Victory Saturday

Fordham improves to 9-5 at the Rose Hill Gym this season

BRONX, N.Y. (Feb. 7, 2024) – Taking the lead early and never looking back, Fordham University women's basketball defeated UMass 64-50 at the Rose Hill Gym Saturady afternoon. The win is the Rams' second in a row as they improve to 9-15 on the year, and 4-9 in the Atlantic 10.

Taylor Donaldson would tally a double-double in the victory scoring 16 points and adding 10 rebounds, while Emy Hayford paced the Rams on the scoring front, with 17 points on 7-of-10 shooting and 3-of-5 from three-point land. Aminata Ly would score six points while pulling down eight rebounds and nabbing three steals, tied for the most of the day with Matilda Flood, would have four points and seven rebounds along with her three steals.

An even start to the contest would see Fordham take a 10-9 lead on a pair of free throws inside of four minutes to play in the first. Ending the quarter with four of the last five makes, Fordham would extend a six point lead after 10 minutes of action.

The second quarter would see the Rams start to pull away, using an extended 10-0 run through the quarter break, and establish a 13-point lead. A dominant effort on both ends of the floor, UMass would tally just one make before 14 unanswered points were scored by the Rams to pull away towards the end of the half.

Holding a comfortable 21 point lead coming out of the half, UMass would tally four quick points at the free throw line, but the Rams would sink the first three baskets out of halftime to hold a 44-21 advantage at the media timeout in the third.

Entering the fourth Fordham would see the Minutewomen start to work back into the game as the fourth quarter progressed, but the Rams managed the closing stages to take their second win in a row at home.

The Rams will have a bye in the midweek before returning to action next Sunday at St. Bonaventure at 1:00 p.m.
