Women's Basketball Falls to Adelphi Monday Night

Chae Harris led the Rams with 18 points in her Fordham debut

NEW YORK – Fordham University women's basketball fell to Adelphi Monday night at the Rose Hill Gym to open the 2024-25 season.

In her debut with the Maroon and White, Chae Harris would tally 18 points to lead the Rams including 3-of-7 shooting from beyond the arc, while also collecting three steals. Taya Davis would nab a career-best five steals Monday night, along with four rebounds and five points. Three other Fordham players would also tally five points apiece, while as a collective the Rams shot 40.9% from the field and 35.7% from beyond the arc.

Breaking out to an early lead, Adelphi would hold the lead for the entirety of the first half, leading by five after one quarter of play, and going on to extend a 16-point lead midway through the second period of action.

It was there that Fordham's gathered themselves on both sides of the ball, going on a tear from 6:45 in the second quarter to the 8:28 mark of the third, scoring 20 of the next 22 points to erase their deficit and take their first lead of the contest. The Rams would make it a two possession game a short while later, but would find themselves down by two heading into the fourth.

Holding the Panthers from scoring for over five minutes in the final quarter of play, Fordham would take the lead briefly, before a pair of free throws with 3:05 to lay put Adelphi back up by two. Fordham would tie the game once more a few possessions later, but would see the visitors tally the final eight points to upset the Rams on opening night.

Fordham returns to the Rose Hill Gymnasium Friday night for a meeting with Cal St. Fullerton at 6:30 p.m. on ESPN+.
