Rams Power Past Mercyhurst with Season-High 30 Goals

Annapolis, Md. – (November 22, 2024) – The #3/4 Fordham water polo team opened play at the 2024 MAWPC Championship on Friday, as the top-seeded Rams powered past the eighth-seeded Mercyhurst Lakers, 30-4, at the U.S. Naval Academy in Maryland.

Fordham (29-0) set a season-high in goals scored, while tying the school record.  Previously, Fordham scored 30 goals in a 30-9 win over Penn State in 1971.

Fordham poured on the offense in the second and third quarters, netting seven and eight goals, respectively, to push ahead by a 25-2 margin, eventually winning by the 30-4 score.

The Rams connected on 30 of 44 shots for a 68% shooting percentage, while also having over 20 steals in the match.

Napolitano had a game-high four goals to go with an assist and a steal, while Provenziani also had four goals to go with four assists and three steals.  Armingol added a hat trick with Tyler Fahey having two goals, three assists, and two steals.  Oriskovich, Jagger McMannis, Jacopo Parrella, Csongor Bartuszek, Toth, and Ioane Maglakelidze each had two markers in the contest.

In net, Fordham's goalkeeper trio of Thomas Lercari, Kristof Magony, and Reggie Robles all saw action.  Lecari allowed just one goal in just under two quarters of play with five saves, an assist, and a steal, while Magony had four saves and one goal allowed.  Robles played the final quarter, making four saves, including a penalty block.
