Box Score CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Despite keeping pace all afternoon, Fordham University Volleyball fell to Davidson in straight sets Saturday afternoon, as the Wildcats used a flurry of quick runs to pull away for the win.
Fordham would hit just shy of .200 for the match, but the Wildcats would slam 15 or more kills in each of the three frames to take the win over the Rams. Fordham would fall in each period by four points or less, but Davidson managed to hold off the Maroon and White at the end of each set to take the match in straight sets.
Whitley Moody would scatter 11 kills on the night ahead of eight from Audrey Brown and seven from Zoe Talabong. Getting the nod in the starting lineup Alexa Pyle would finish as one of three Rams with four kills apiece along with Lorenza Rosenkilde and Bridget Woodruff.
That trio would combine for four solo blocks and six block assists, with each of the three tallying a solo rejection, while Ryan Naumann rounded out the defensive numbers with a team high 14 digs and one of three Rams with a service ace.
Rattling off five of the first six points to start the match, Davidson would extend a six point lead later in the frame, which Fordham would cut into down the stretch in set one. Cutting the Wildcats lead to two at 20-18, the Rams would keep within 2-3 points, before two straight by the home side gave them a 25-21 win.
Trading points back and forth through the midway mark of set two, the Rams and Wildcats would tie at 14-all, before a quick four-point swing by Davidson put them ahead late. Fordham would fight back quickly to draw level at 21, but were shut down with a 4-1 run to close the frame by the Wildcats to take it 25-22 and take a two set lead in the match.
The Maroon and White would tally three of the first four points of set three, but a 6-0 run the other way gave Davidson the lead. After bringing the match back to within one with a run of their own, Fordham would keep close before using a five point swing from down one to take a 20-17 lead. Trading points from there, the Rams held a 22-19 advantage, but six of the final seven points would be scored by the Wildcats who stormed back to steal the match in straight sets with a 25-23 win in the third.
