NEW YORK – The Rams came out of the gates firing Saturday afternoon, taking an opening set victory, before VCU rallied for three straight set wins as Fordham University Volleyball fell in the 2024 season finale, 3-1.
Fordham would claim the opening frame behind an impressive 16 kills, hitting .289 in the first set to take a 1-0 lead. VCU would dominate from there, taking the next three sets all by double-digits to sweep the weekend series at the Rose Hill Gym.
As she has all season long, Whitley Moody would pace the Rams one final time on the offensive end, with 15 kills, ending her Fordham career with 1,637 kills, the new program leader, surpassing the previous record by nearly 200 hammers since breaking it in early October. Moody also departs as the only player ever in program history to record over 1,000 kills and 1,000 digs for their career.
Zoe Talabong would scatter eight kills ahead of five from Audrey Brown, while Ryan Naumann rounded out her career with 14 digs on senior day to lead the team defensively. Lorenza Rosenkilde tallied five block assists to pace the Rams at the tape.
In what was a closely contested opening period, the two sides were level at nine-all, before a flurry of Fordham points gave the home side a 15-11 lead. VCU tried on multiple occasions to tie the score, but the Maroon and White stayed ahead the rest of the way to win 25-22.
VCU would dominate the final three sets from there, taking a 25-10 win in set two, but had to fight much harder in the third frame, with Fordham keeping close through 15-14 VCU, before the visitors rolled away to take the set and go up 2-1. A similar case in the fourth set, the visiting Rams took an early lead and never looked back to take the match in four sets.
Fordham concludes the 2024 campaign at 7-20 overall and 3-15 in Atlantic 10 Conference play.
