BRONX, N.Y. – The Fordham men's soccer team dropped its non-conference finale on Tuesday night, falling to Princeton, 1-0, at Moglia Stadium.
With the loss, Fordham moves to 6-4-4 on the season while Princeton improves to 7-5-0. It marks the first time this season that Fordham has been shut out in a losing effort.
Carter Abbott made two saves in goal for Fordham, lowering his goals against average on the season to 1.19. Thomas Gray was the only Fordham field player to log the full 90 minutes on Tuesday night.
Princeton jumped ahead in the early going, as Kevin Kelley scored in the sixth minute off an assist from Liam Beckwith. Beckwith took a pass in the middle of the field from Will Francis before sending the ball out wide to Kelley on the left side. Kelley took two steps toward the center of the pitch before bending a right-footed ball inside the far post and putting the Tigers in front.
The Rams failed to muster up much offense in the opening half, registering one shot in the game's first 45 minutes.
After the intermission, Fordham came out on the front foot, outshooting Princeton, 4-2, in the first 10 minutes of action. The Rams' best scoring chance of the night came during that stretch, as Daniel D'Ippolito chipped a ball into the box for Andre Insalaco, whose header missed just wide.
Fordham continued to press in the closing minutes of the contest, but could not find an equalizer.
On the game, shots were tied, 11-11, with Fordham holding a 10-7 advantage in the second half. Insalaco took a game-high four shots in 59 minutes of action as a reserve.
Fordham will return to action at Moglia Stadium on Saturday night when it hosts Loyola Chicago for a 7 p.m. kick-off on ESPN+. The game will serve as the program's Senior Night and Alumni Night, as Head Coach Carlo Acquista will recognize the accomplishments of Fordham's seniors and graduate students while also welcoming home to Rose Hill the Rams of yesteryear.
