Bronx, N.Y. – (October 12, 2024) – The #5/6 Fordham water polo team took care of business on Saturday, earning a pair of victories to improve to 15-0 on the season, 7-0 in the MAWPC.
The Rams opened the day with a 17-6 win over 20
th-ranked Wagner in an MAWPC match.
Fordham shot out of the gate with an eight-goal first quarter, led by
Balazs Berenyi, who scored three times in the period for a hat trick.
The Rams' defense was just as effective as the offense, allowing just one goal over the first two quarters with goalkeeper
Thomas Lercari recording seven saves in the half.
Fordham added three goals in the second quarter, four in the third, and two in the final frame for the 17-6 win.
Berenyi ended the match with a team-high four goals, while
Luca Provenziani had a goal and five assists.
Andras Toth and
Jagger McMannis also had two goals apiece with McMannis adding three steals.
In match two on Saturday, Fordham retained the Judge Cup by defeating Iona, 23-6. The Judge Cup, named in honor of Dr. Francis X. Judge, who had deep ties with both programs, will stay at Rose Hill for the sixth consecutive year.
Much like game one, the Rams took it to the Gaels early with a seven-goal first quarter with Provenziani netting a pair in the frame. Fordham then scored six goals in the second to open up a 13-4 advantage.
The Rams then posted another scoreless quarter on the defensive end in the third quarter, while scoring six times on offense to go up by a 19-4 count and went on to win, 23-6.
For Fordham, Provenziani totaled four goals in the match to go with a pair of assists, while Toth had a hat trick, two assists, and two steals.
Reid Thorson,
George Papanikolaou,
Lucas Nieto Jasny, and McMannis also notched two goals apiece. Lercari had seven stops in just over two quarters of work.
The Rams' next contest will be on Friday, October 18
th, as they host an exhibition game against the NYAC, starting at 7:30 PM at the Col. Francis B. Messmore Aquatic Center.
