Swimming & Diving Sweeps Iona

Fordham Women Defeat Gaels, 222-74, while Men Post 162-126 Victory

New Rochelle, N.Y. – (January 24, 2024) – For the sixth time this season, the Fordham swimming & diving team posted a dual meet sweep, winning both meets over the Iona Gaels on Wednesday at the Hynes Center Pool.
 
The Fordham women stayed undefeated with a 7-0 record, topping Iona, 222-74, while the Fordham men improved to 6-1 on the season with a 162-126 victory over the Gaels.
 
The Rams started and finished the meet with relay wins in both the men's and women's competition.  First in the 200 medley relay, it was Jane Brown, Ainhoa Martin, Manon Compagner, and Alison Lin taking first in 1:45.56, while the men's group of Christian Taylor, David Topi, Vitalis Onu, and Alex Shah grabbed first in 1:32.86.
 
The final relay was the 400 freestyle relay with Leire Martin, Lin, Madeline Bergin, and Compagner finishing first in 3:33.09, while Shah, Alex Wilhelm, Noah Althoff, and Wojciech Dutkowiak won the men's event in 3:05.76.
 
Individually, seven different Rams won two events on Wednesday.  L. Martin won the 200 freestyle event in 1:54.89, as well as the 200 breaststroke in 2:21.38 to start things for the women.  J. Brown grabbed the top spot in both backstroke events in 57.50 seconds (100) and 2:07.47 (200), while A. Martin won the 200 butterfly (2:03.73) and 200 individual medley (2:01.53) events.  Wrapping up the multi-event winners were Emma Shaughnessy in the 100 breaststroke (1:04.40) and 500 freestyle (5:17.68) and Jessica Zebrowski in the 50 freestyle (24.06) and 100 butterfly (56.52).
 
Other event wins for the Fordham women came from Mya Bokerman in the one-meter dive (271.05), Compagner in the 100 freestyle (53.22), and Cai Flowers in the three-meter dive (261.08).
 
On the men's side, Guy Gropper and Daniel Langlois were both multi-event winners.  Gropper posted the top time in the 50 freestyle (20.57) and 100 butterfly (51.13), while Langlois did so in the 200 breaststroke (2:07.65) and 200 individual medley (1:56.50).
 
Additional event wins came from Topi in the 100 breaststroke (58.22) and Wilhelm in the 100 freestyle (46.94)
 
The Rams will next be in action on Saturday, February 3rd, when Fordham hosts Massachusetts for a 1:00 PM meet at the Col. Francis B. Messmore Aquatic Center for both Senior Day and Alumni Day.
