DAYTON, Ohio – Facing a conference powerhouse and one of the top teams in the nation, Fordham University volleyball fell 3-0 in the first of two matches at No. 21 Dayton Friday night.
Pacing the Rams for the night on both ends was Tatum Holderied who tallied five kills and a pair of blocks, ahead of four players with three kills apiece, including both Lauren Arzuaga and Nailah Jenkins who would finish with three and two blocks respectively. Elsewhere on offense, Whitney Woodrow dished out 12 assists and Mackenzie Colvin would contribute an additional four, with three other players including Woodrow adding a single kill each to the Rams' numbers.
With nine different players adding to the dig totals for the evening, Mallory Lipski would lead the way in that department, followed by seven from Woodrow out of 30 total for the team. After going down 6-0 to start the match, the Rams would battle back later in the set, but another run by the home side would send Dayton into the media up 15-7 and would take the set to go up 1-0.
In the second, the Flyers once again got off to an early start, gaining another strong lead towards the midway point in the frame, and would use a late run to pull away and take a 2-0 lead. The third set would see the Rams go toe-to-toe with Dayton for much of the early going, taking the lead at 6-5, before a run by the Flyers saw them take back the advantage, before taking the set and the match in three.
Fordham and Dayton will square off once again tomorrow at 12:00 p.m.
