Bronx, N.Y. – (September 15, 2023) – The Fordham water polo team is back in the pool this weekend in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania for the Bucknell Invitational. The Rams will have four matches, all of which are MAWPC matches against Bucknell, Johns Hopkins, Wagner, and Mt. St. Mary's.
The Rams posted a 2-1 mark at last week's Princeton Invitational, getting wins over Chapman and then-#18 Harvard, while falling to then-#6 Princeton. That moved Fordham from #20 to #17 in the CWPA/NCAA national poll, while being #16 in the ACWPC Coaches Poll.
Fordham opens the weekend against host Buckell on Saturday at 10:00 AM, while facing Johns Hopkins at 6:00 PM. On Sunday, it will be an 11:20 AM match with Wagner and a 3:20 PM start against Mt. St. Mary's.
The Rams take an 18-game conference win streak into the weekend. The last MAWPC loss for Fordham was at Johns Hopkins in November of 2021.

HISTORY: As for the opponents, it will be a re-match of last year's MAWPC Championship match to start the Bucknell Invitational. Fordham defeated Bucknell, 14-7, in the championship match last November and have topped the Bison in each of the last five meetings. Bucknell is 2-5 on the young season with both wins coming against Iona.
Match two has the Rams against Johns Hopkins, who is 1-5 on the year with Mercyhurst as the lone victory. Fordham has played well against the Bluejays, posting a 12-3 record since 2016. The three losses for Fordham were all one-goal losses.
Sunday starts with a match against cross borough rival Wagner. Since Wagner added water polo in 2016, Fordham is 10-4 against the Seahawks with the Rams winning the last seven meetings. Wagner is 5-3 in 2023 and have mirrored some of Fordham's results, as both teams have dropped matches to Pepperdine and Princeton, while each has one win over a ranked opponent (Fordham – Harvard; Wagner – Navy).
The last match will be against Mt. St. Mary's, who is 1-3 on the year. Fordham is 6-0 all-time against the Mountaineers, which began in 2021.
BERENYI NAMED MAWPC PLAYER OF THE WEEK (9/13): The Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference (MAWPC) announced its weekly awards for the second week of the season on Wednesday. Among the award winners, Fordham's
Balazs Berenyi was selected as the league's Player of the Week.
The sophomore totaled eight goals, two assists and three steals at the Princeton Invitational this past weekend. Berenyi started the weekend with a pair of goals, an assist, and two steals in the 21-12 win over Chapman on Saturday. On Sunday, Berenyi scored a team-high of five goals in the Rams' win over then-#18 Harvard. He also walked away with a goal and a steal against then-#6 Princeton.
