Bronx, N.Y. – (May 6, 2023) – George Mason's James Quinn-Irons drove in two runs and scored three times, as the Patriots got past the Fordham Rams, 10-5, at Houlihan Park on Saturday afternoon.
The Patriots opened with three runs in the first inning, but Fordham answered with two in the bottom half of the inning. With two out, Fordham's
Peter DeMaria connected on a solo home run to left, his team-leading 11
th home run of the season.
Tommy McAndrews then went back-to-back, as he crushed a solo home run to left, his fifth of the season.
George Mason added two runs in the third inning on a two-run double by Connor Dykstra and then rallied for five in the sixth for a 10-2 lead.
The Rams cut back into the lead in the bottom of the sixth, when
Will Findlay drilled a two-run home run to right, his fifth of the season.
Fordham hit its fourth home run of the day in the ninth, as
Daniel Bucciero went deep to right center in front of the scoreboard for a solo home run, his second of the year, for the 10-5 final score.
For Fordham, Bucciero was 2-for-4 with a home run and two runs scored to lead the offense as the lone multi-hit game.
On the mound,
Austin Sachen (0-4) took the loss, allowing five runs on six hits, while
Nate Scott gave up five runs on two hits over 1.1 innings of relief.
Dominic Cunha closed out the game with four innings of two-hit relief.
The rubber game of this series is set for noon on Sunday.
