Bronx, N.Y. – (May 14, 2023) – All of the good feelings from Saturday's Senior Day win carried into Mother's Day Sunday at Houlihan Park, as
Zach Selinger and
Will Findlay both homered to lead the Fordham Rams to a 12-5 win over the Massachusetts Minutemen.
The Rams kicked off the game with a bang, scoring five times in the first inning. After a sacrifice fly by
Cian Sahler opened the scoring, the Rams got a two-run single from
Sebastian Mexico and a two-run double by
Chris Genaro for the 5-0 lead.
Fordham tacked on two more runs in the second to make it 7-0, when
Zach Selinger connected on a two-run home run to left, his team-leading 12
th home run of the season.
UMass picked up a run in the third, but Fordham quickly answered with three in the fourth for a 10-1 advantage.
Daniel Bucciero and Selinger each reached safely on singles and came round to score on
Will Findlay's three-run home run, his sixth of the season.
The Minutemen closed the gap to 10-5 by the top of the seventh, but Fordham netted two runs in the bottom of the seventh to close out the scoring, highlighted by an RBI-double by
Tommy McAndrews.
Aside from the offense, Fordham received a fantastic pitching performance, starting with
Nolan Hughes. Hughes (2-3) earned his second win of the season, going a career-long six innings, allowing three earned runs with a career-high eight strikeouts.
Ryan Egan,
Gabe Karslo, and
William Simeone followed with one inning of relief each to close out the win.
At the plate, Selinger was 3-for-3 with three runs scored, a home run, and two RBI, while Findlay was 1-for-4 with two runs scored, a home run, and three RBI. Mexico finished 3-for-5 with a pair of RBI with Genaro going 2-for-5 with a double and two RBI.
The Fordham baseball team will next be in action on Tuesday, May 16
th, as the Rams take on Manhattan at Clover Stadium in Pomona, N.Y., starting at 3:00 PM.
