Baseball Falls in Finale at Richmond

Peter DeMaria Hits Two More Home Runs for the Rams

Richmond, Va. – (April 23, 2023) – Despite hitting three more home runs, the Fordham Rams could not overcome an early deficit, falling to the Richmond Spiders in the rubber game of their three-game series, 7-4, at Pitt Field.

After the Rams closed out yesterday's suspended game with a win, Fordham continued its long ball parade this weekend in the second inning of game three, when Peter DeMaria cracked a solo home run to center for a 1-0 lead, his ninth of the year and fourth this weekend.

The Spiders answered with three runs in the bottom of the second, chipping away those runs on infield singles and a sacrifice fly.

After the Rams made it 3-2 on a sacrifice fly by Daniel Bucciero, Richmond rallied for four runs in the bottom of the third for a 7-2 edge.  The biggest hits were an RBI-double by Jason Neff and RBI-singles from Zach Lass and Mikey Kluska.

Fordham chipped away at the deficit with single runs in the fourth and fifth innings.  In the fourth, DeMaria tattooed another solo home run to left, his team-leading tenth of the season, while Nico Boza hit a solo home run to right center, his first of the season.

From there, the Rams were unable to get anything more against Richmond pitcher Jeremy Neff, as he retired the last nine batters he faced, keeping the Spiders' lead at three.  Alden Mathes then pitched a scoreless ninth to record his third save of the season.  Neff (2-0) ended the game allowing four runs over eight innings with 10 strikeouts.

For Fordham, DeMaria was 2-for-3 with two home runs, while Boza was 2-for-4 with a home run.  Michael Taylor also went 2-for-4 with a run scored in the game.

The Rams will next be in action on Tuesday, March 25th, as the team heads to Marist for a 3:00 PM game.
