New Rochelle, N.Y. – Fordham softball picked up a 2-1 win over local rival Iona on Wednesday afternoon, improving to 7-13 on the season.
Junior
Bailey Enoch tossed her second complete game of the season to improve to 3-3, limiting the Gaels to just one sac fly and seven total baserunners over seven frames with five strikeouts. Iona's lone run came on a sacrifice fly in the fourth inning.
The Rams struck for two runs in the fifth;
Neleh Nogay led off with a bunt single and moved to third on an error on
Julia Martine's sac bunt attempt. Martine then stole second while the throw went past the shortstop covering, allowing Nogay to score and tie the game. Three batters later and with two outs,
Sydney Wells went the opposite way to single in Martine for the go-ahead run.
Wells finished the day 3-for-3, while Nogay went 2-for-3. Enoch, with a double, and
Julia Petrovich, with a single, each notched the other two hits. Enoch and Martine also walked once.
Fordham returns home to host St. Bonaventure this weekend for a three-game series. Both Saturday's doubleheader and Sunday's series finale are set to begin at noon. All three contests will be streamed on ESPN+ but Sunday's will also be broadcast on the MSG family of networks.
