Bronx, N.Y. – (March 16, 2023) – It took a couple of extra days, but the Fordham Rams and Lafayette Leopards finally got to renew their longtime series on Thursday after being washed out on Tuesday. The Rams used that extra time is find their hitting shoes, defeating the Leopards, 11-1, at Houlihan Park.
This was Fordham's fifth win in their last six games.
The Rams (5-12) got on the board right away in the first inning, as
Cian Sahler doubled to left with one out, stole third, and scored on a ground out by
Daniel Bucciero for a 1-0 lead.
Fordham added three runs in the third, taking advantage of a Lafayette error. With two outs,
Will Findlay hit a fly ball to center, which the centerfielder dropped, allowing Findlay to reach second.
Zach Selinger quickly followed with an RBI-single to left center to score Findlay.
Tommy McAndrews then connected on a two-run home run to right, his first of the season, for a 4-0 lead.
The Rams were back at it in the fourth, netting four runs for an 8-0 lead. The team loaded the bases with Findlay drawing a bases loaded walk for the first run, while the second run came in on an error. McAndrews then closed the rally with a two-run single up the middle.
The scoring continued with one run in the sixth and two in the eighth for Fordham, highlighted by a two-run double by Findlay in the eighth.
The lone blemish for the Rams was a solo home run by Pete Ciuffreda in the fifth inning, as Fordham cruised to the 11-1 win.
For Fordham, McAndrews was 2-for-3 with a home run and four RBI, while Findlay was 2-for-3 with a double, three runs scored, and three RBI. Selinger also finished with two hits an RBI and a run scored.
Trey Maeker (1-2) recorded the win, pitching the first two innings without allowing a hit.
Ryan Egan pitched two scoreless innings of relief with two strikeouts, while
Nolan Hughes had a career-high six strikeouts over three innings of one-hit relief.
Gannon Brady closed out the win with a scoreless ninth inning with two strikeouts.
The Fordham baseball team will next by in action on Friday, March 17
th, as they open a three-game series against Fairfield at Houlihan Park, beginning at 3:00 PM.
