Philadelphia, Pa. – Fordham women's basketball fell, 61-49, at La Salle on Thursday afternoon inside the sweltering Tom Gola Arena. With the loss, the Rams fall to 16-10 overall and 8-5 in Atlantic 10 play, while the Explorers improve to 16-11 and 7-5, respectively.
The Rams never really got into a rhythm in the game and trailed from the opening minute on. Claire Jacobs set the tone for what was to come with a basket within the first 10 seconds of the contest and La Salle would open with a 13-4 advantage. Fordham closed the period on an 8-5 run to get within six. The visitors held the hosts to just eight points and 20.0% shooting from the field in the second frame, scoring 13 points, getting within one by the end of the first half 26-25.
La Salle scored seven unanswered points in the third quarter's first three-plus minutes prompting a Fordham timeout. Neither team shot the ball well in the frame as the Explorers held onto that six-point margin heading to the final frame. A quick
Anna DeWolfe got the Rams within four at the start of the period, but La Salle would respond and never let the deficit get below six the rest of the way. The Explorers shot 8-of-11 from the floor in the fourth, 3-of-6 from distance, as Fordham took double the attempts thanks to offensive rebounding and steals but could convert at just a 31.8% clip.
DeWolfe finished with a team-high 17 points, adding three assists, two rebounds, and two steals over 38 minutes, while
Asiah Dingle netted 15 points, seven boards, four assists, and three steals.
Jada Dapaa corralled 10 more rebounds, four offensive, with three steals,
Kaitlyn Downey notched three thefts and two blocks to go with seven boards and two points, and
Sarah Karpell scored six. Off the bench,
Matilda Flood contributed four points, five rebounds, two assists, a steal, and a block in 24 minutes, as well.
The Rams return home to host George Mason this Sunday at 3:30 p.m. on SNY, ESPN+, and WFUV. It is Fordham's Senior Day, honoring eight seniors or fifth-year student-athletes, and Alumni Day. Registration is
still ongoing for the latter.
