BRONX, N.Y. – A valiant effort late in Saturday's match saw the Rams fight back in the third set, but fell to Loyola-Chicago in three sets.
Audrey Brown led the way for Fordham as she drilled 13 kills, tied for the game-high as well, while hitting .360 for the match. Whitney Woodrow would dish out 10 assists ahead of six from Mackenzie Colvin to help lead the offense. Defensively, the Rams collected 37 digs, paced by 10 from Mallory Lipski who also posted five service aces, which included four in a row late in the third set. Ryan Naumann would add six digs and both Whitley Moody and Zoe Talabong would tack on five more apiece.
Loyola would take a slim lead out of the gates, taking as much as a six point lead, but the Rams remained strong, cutting the deficit to as little as two a short while later. From there the Ramblers would go on an extended run to take the opening period.
The second set would see the visitors again garner an early lead, quickly answered by the Rams, who would eventually come back to tie the match at 12-all. Fordham wouldn't trail in the set by more than two from that point on, until Loyola pulled away by three late in the frame to take it 25-22.
After falling behind, early the Rams countered Loyola's run to stay in contention early in the frame. The visitors would start to pull away a short while later, but towards the midway point in the frame Lipski would tally four consecutive service aces and five points for the Rams to pull back within one. Loyola, however, would counter late and go on to take the set and the match in three.
With one more series on the docket, the Rams will look to lock up a playoff spot next weekend with a pair of matches at George Mason.
