Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

No. 24 Fordham Falls at URI, 1-0

Rams suffer road defeat after back-to-back home wins

KINGSTON, R.I. – Despite dominating nearly every facet of the match, the No. 24 Fordham men's soccer team came out on the wrong end of a 1-0 decision against Rhode Island on Saturday night at URI Soccer Complex.

The visiting Rams, who entered the week ranked no. 10 in the RPI, outshot the host Rams, 17-5, including a 6-1 edge in shots on goal.  Fordham also earned seven corners to URI's five, but proved unable to find the back of the net.

After falling behind in the 62nd minute on a goal from Brandon Bermingham, Fordham (6-2-3, 3-2-0 Atlantic 10) appeared to pull even in the 70th minute.  Louis Lehr headed down a corner kick that seemed to cross the line, but the official did not award Fordham a goal and the deficit persisted.

Fordham continued to press, putting four shots on net over the final 20 minutes.  The Rams of Rose Hill, however, could not break through.  Fordham's best look of that stretch came in the 77th minute, when URI goalkeeper Edu Rodriguez saved Daniel D'Ippolito's initial try from just outside the box before denying Shizu Yohena in close quarters on the rebound.

Rhode Island played the final 2:30 of the match with only 10 men after Rodrigo De Castro was sent off with a red card, but the Rams proved unable to capitalize on the brief numbers advantage despite earning two corner kick opportunities in the final minute.

Fordham will return to action on Tuesday night when it plays host to No. 16 Hofstra.  Kick from Moglia Stadium at Jack Coffey Field is set for 7 p.m. on MSG and ESPN+.
