Bronx, N.Y. – (September 29, 2022) – Behind hat tricks from
Jacopo Parrella and
George Papanikolaou and 12 saves from
Thomas Lercari, the 17
th-ranked Fordham Rams downed the Wagner Seahawks, 14-9, at the Col. Francis B Messmore Aquatic Center.
With the win, Fordham improved to 10-6 on the year, 4-0 in the MAWPC.
Fordham got out to a quick start with extra-man goals from
Balazs Berenyi and
Nir Gross for a 2-0 lead. The Rams ended up with a 5-2 lead by the end of the first quarter, following another man-up goal, this time by
Lucas Nieto Jasny.
Jacopo Parrella then got involved in the Fordham offense, scoring twice in the second quarter, while Gross added his second marker to increase the Rams' lead to 8-2.
Fordham would not relinquish lead in the second half thanks to
Thomas Lercari, who ended the match with 12 saves in goal for the Rams.
Offensively, Parrella and
George Papanikolaou each scored three goals, while Gross,
Christos Loupakis, and Berenyi each had two markers. Nieto Jasny and
Michael Rahner closed out the scoring with one goal each.
The Rams are now off until October 8-9 for the MAWPC Crossover, hosted in Morgantown, West Virginia at the Aquatic Center at Mylan Park. Fordham faces McKendree and Salem on October 8
th, while taking on Gannon and Mercyhurst on October 9
th.
