Stanford, Calif. – (September 23, 2022) – Making their inaugural appearance at the MPSF Invitational, the #16 Fordham Rams had a stiff opening test in the #5 USC Trojans, falling by a 17-8 score at Stanford's Belardi Pool.
Fordham opened the scoring with an extra-man goal by
Jacopo Parrella for the early 1-0 lead. USC answered with four goals to end the period with a 4-1 advantage.
USC powered their way to a 9-4 lead by halftime, posting three extra-man goals and a penalty shot goal in the second quarter. Fordham would have two extra-man goals from
Luca Silvestri and Parrella in the frame with the final goal coming from
Nir Gross.
The Rams closed within four in the third quarter at 10-6 following goals from
Christos Loupakis and Silverstri. However, the Trojans ended the frame with back-to-back goals to be up 12-6 after three period.
USC then closed out the match with a five-goal final period to go on to win by a 17-8 count.
For Fordham, Silvestri registered a team-high three goals, while Parrella and Gross each had two.
The Rams will now play #13 UC Irvine at 3:00 PM ET on Saturday, for the first of two matches on the day.
