Brookville, N.Y. – (September 2, 2022) – In the early part of the 2022 season, the newcomers to the Fordham men's soccer team have made their presence felt and Friday was no exception. Graduate student

Nathan Simes, both in their first seasons at Rose Hill, each had a goal and an assist, as the Rams knocked off LIU, 2-1, at LIU Soccer Park.
Fordham opened the scoring in the 26
th minute.
Nathan Simes had the ball near the LIU endline and cut across into the box. He put a cross toward the front of the net, which
Timo Hummrich knocked into the net for his first marker as a Ram.
The next crucial moment of the match came in the 49
th minute, when LIU's Emil Jaaskelainen picked up his second card of the game, leaving the Sharks down a player for the remainder of the contest.
LIU then caught a break in the 53
rd minute, as a handball was called in the box, awarding a penalty kick to the Sharks. Michael Mollica stepped to the spot and scored inside the left post to knot the score at one.

The score remained tied until the 88
th minute when Fordham struck for the game-winning tally. Hummrich made a run toward the box, slipping a through ball to Simes at the six-yard box. Simes quickly chipped the ball past the keeper for his first goal of the season.
In a series that dates back to 1952, it was Fordham's first victory over LIU since 2000.
Fordham will next be in action on Tuesday, September 6
th, when they host Manhattan for a 7:00 PM start at Jack Coffey Field.
