Princeton, N.J. – (September 10, 2022) – The 17
th-ranked Fordham water polo team opened play at the Princeton Invitational on Saturday afternoon defeating Cal Lutheran, 18-11, in Princeton, N.J.
With the score tied at three in the first quarter, Fordham (3-2) scored the final three goals of the period to take a 6-3 lead by the end of the quarter.
After extending the lead to 9-4 by halftime, the Rams outscored Cal Lutheran, 5-0, in the third quarter to pull away in the match with three of those goals coming from
Christos Loupakis.
Loupakis ended the match with a game-high five goals, while
Lucas Nieto Jasny notched two goals, four assists, and three steals.
Mark Katsev also had two goals in the contest with
Nir Gross making his Fordham debut with a goal and two assists. Eight other Rams had one goal in the match. In net,
Thomas Lercari played the first three quarters, allowing four goals with seven saves, while
Riccardo Di Giuseppe had three stops and a steal in the final quarter.
The Rams will have two big tests on Sunday to finish the Princeton Invitational. Fordham faces #18 St. Francis Brooklyn at 1:00 PM and #10 Princeton at 4:45 PM.
