Stony Brook, N.Y. – Fordham volleyball got off to a winning start to the 2022 campaign with a five-set victory over Quinnipiac at Stony Brook on Saturday afternoon.
Whitley Moody led the way with a career-high 22 kills, matched by freshman
Audrey Brown, while falling one ace shy of the program record of eight.
The Rams coasted to an opening 25-16 first set before the Bobcats rallied for a pair of close set wins, 25-23 and 26-24. Fordham held the 'visitors' off to force a fifth frame, 25-23, and controlled the final set, eventually winning it, 15-8.
Fordham was led by Moody's personal-best 22 kills, her fourth career 20-kill effort, hitting .288, while Brown began her collegiate career in stellar fashion, amassing 22 kills on 36 attacks with just two errors, good for a .556 clip. The middle duo of
Aria De La Rosa, with eight, and
Chloe Pejouan, with six, chipped in a combined 14 kills, both hitting above .300, the latter chipping in a team-best four blocks.
Megan Brzozowski went off for 47 assists and 13 digs, adding four kills, two aces, and a solo block, while
Zoe Talabong debuted with a team-high 14 digs, three aces, two blocks, and two kills.
Mallory Lipski contributed eight digs and five assists, while
Aneliesa Cartledge served up a pair of aces.
Both teams hit near the same mark, Fordham at .288 and Quinnipiac at .287, with the Bobcats having 23 errors to Fordham's 18. The Rams racked up 14 aces, too.
Fordham remains at Stony Brook to play the Seawolves at 1 p.m. tomorrow.
