Olean, N.Y. – Fordham softball capped a three-game series sweep at St. Bonaventure on Sunday with an 8-2 victory, scoring every run in an eventful third inning. With the win, the Rams improve to 26-18 overall and 14-6 in Atlantic 10 play, ascending to second in the league standings and controlling their own destiny for a first-round bye.
Most of the damage in that frame with one out.
Bailey Enoch started the run with a walk and then stole her second career base moments later.
Sydney Wells singled to left and was replaced on base by
Kelly Bright.
Allie Clark drew a walk to load the bases and the Rams came then strung three straight singles to plate the first three runs –
Amanda Carey and then two pinch hitters,
Julia Petrovich and
Bella Ayala. Then, a wild situation with
Michaela Carter at the plate – a groundball to third resulted in an errant throw that went deep into foul territory in right, allowing ALL four players to score. Fordham batted around with
Rachel Hubertus singling and Enoch ripped a triple to right, her second of the weekend, to cap the scoring.
Carey and
Devon Miller each doubled later the contest but were left stranded. St. Bonaventure put runners on first and second to lead off the seventh but a lineout directly at
Julia Martine at short turned into a rare 6-3 triple play to end the contest.
Enoch picked up her sixth win of the year by going the distance, allowing two unearned runs and six total baserunners, while matching her career-high of eight strikeouts. The sophomore also went 2-for-3 at the plate with a run, RBI, and stolen base. Also reaching base safely on the day was Clark, who singled and drew a pair of walks, with Carey notching two hits, as well. Nine different Rams had at least one hit.
For the weekend, Fordham slashed .340/.379/.521 as a team, outscoring the Bonnies, 23-5. All three starters went the distance and combined for an even 1.00 ERA.
The Rams wrap up the regular season next weekend at home for a three-game series with Dayton, with both Saturday's doubleheader and Sunday's series finale starting at noon. Between Saturday's games, the Rams will honor their four seniors –
Julia Martine,
Makenzie McGrath,
Gigi Speer, and
Sarah Taffet.
