Bronx, N.Y. – (May 1, 2022) – Behind a fine outing by starting pitcher
Brooks Ey and a three-hit, three-RBI day from
Jake Guercio, the Fordham Rams posted a 7-3 win over the Saint Joseph's Hawks in their series finale on Sunday at Houlihan Park.
Fordham (12-29, 5-10 A10) took a 1-0 lead in the first, as
David Kale scored on an errant throw home by the Saint Joseph's third baseman, trying to throw him out at home.
The Hawks (24-17, 9-6 A10) answered with two runs in the second on an RBI-single by Tim Cavanaugh and a sacrifice fly by Brandon Drapeau.
The score stayed that way until the bottom of the fifth, as the Rams scored twice to take the lead.
Jack Harnisch drew a leadoff walk and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt.
Jake Guercio then laced a single through the right side to tie the game at two. After singles by Kale and
Cian Sahler,
Zach Selinger lifted a sacrifice fly to left, scoring Guercio for the lead at 3-2.
Fordham then tacked on three runs in the sixth and one in the seventh for a 7-2 lead.
Will Findlay walked to start the sixth and moved to third on a hit-and-run single by
Andy Semo. After a pitching change and a stolen base for Semo, Guercio hit a dropping liner to center that the diving outfielder couldn't come up with, allowing Findlay and Semo to score on the two-run double. Kale followed with an RBI-single to score Guercio. The final Rams' run in the seventh came on an error.
