Bronx, N.Y. – (April 26, 2022) – Fordham's
Cian Sahler threw four innings of one-hit relief, while helping his own cause with two hits and two RBI, as Rams posted a 9-5 win over the Iona Gaels at Houlihan Park on Tuesday afternoon.
Fordham (10-27) opened the scoring in the first on a sacrifice fly by
Zach Selinger, but Iona responded with two runs in the second off Fordham starter
Connor Haywood for a 2-1 advantage.
The Rams then came back with five runs in the fourth inning to take a 6-2 lead. Fordham loaded the bases right away on a single by Selinger and walks to
Jack Harnisch and
Chris Genaro.
T.J. Wachter followed with an RBI-single through the left side to tie the game. After a double play ball plated the second run of the inning,
Ryan Thiesse came through with an RBI-single to right center, scoring Wachter for a 4-2 lead.
David Kale was next up and drew a walk and then pulled off a double steal with Thiesse.
Cian Sahler would cap the inning with a two-run double to left center for a 6-2 edge.
Fordham increased its lead by scoring twice in the sixth and once in the seventh for a 9-2 advantage. In the sixth, Selinger roped a two-run single with the bases loaded to score Thiesse and Kale, while the seventh inning saw Kale register an RBI-single to score Wachter.

Iona closed the gap to 9-5, as they scored three runs over the final two innings, but reliever
James Springer was able to get the final outs to secure the victory.
Sahler (2-1) earned the win in relief, pitching four innings of one-hit relief and tied a season-high with three strikeouts. He also helped his own cause at the plate, going 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI. Haywood went the first three innings, allowing two runs on thee hits with four strikeouts.
Aside from Sahler, Thiesse went 3-for-3 with two runs scored, two stolen bases, and an RBI, while Kale was 2-for-2 with three runs scored, three walks, and three stolen bases. Selinger ended the game 2-for-3 with three RBI with Wachter going 2-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI.
The Rams are right back on the field on Wednesday, as they travel to Fairleigh Dickinson at a 3:00 PM start.
