South Orange, N.J. – Fordham softball fell, 5-3, less than 24 hours after announcing an impromptu midweek contest at Seton Hall. With the result, the Rams fall to 3-8 through two and a half weeks of action.
Fordham struck right away with a first-inning run and added two more on
Julia Martine's third-inning two-run shot before the Pirates began to rally against
Devon Miller, cutting the deficit to one in the third, taking the lead in the fourth, and adding an insurance run against
Makenzie McGrath in the sixth.
Michaela Carter started the game off with an infield single, moving over to second on a wild pitch and third on
Brianna Pinto's bunt single.
Rachel Hubertus drove her in for the game's first run with a groundout. In the third, Martine smacked a two-out, two-run shot, scoring Pinto, to make it a 3-0 game.
Four different Rams finished with a hit, also including
Sydney Wells, with Carter drawing a walk to reach twice and Miller also reaching via walk. Miller allowed four runs, three earned, over 3.1 innings with two strikeouts, while McGrath duplicated the two punchouts with one run allowed over 2.2 frames of relief.
The Rams next play at UT-Arlington's Boerner Invitational March 4-6.
