Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Women's Basketball Succumbs to Seton Hall on Saturday

Rams See Three-Game Win Streak Snapped in 78-72 Loss

Bronx, N.Y. – Fordham women's basketball saw its three-game win streak snapped on Saturday afternoon with a 78-72 loss to visiting Seton Hall. With the loss, the Rams fall to 7-5, while the Pirates improve to 9-3.

It was a tight, hotly-contested, back-and-forth affair full of 13 lead changes, seven ties, a combined 57 field goals and 34 turnovers, and some eyebrow-raising calls. Seton Hall's Lauren Park-Lane scored 35 points on 26 attempts in a duel with Asiah Dingle, who scored 26 on 11-of-20 shooting. The Rams enjoyed a quick start to the game with Megan Jonassen scoring five unanswered points within the first minute, including a three-point play, but back-to-back Park-Lane threes gave the visitors the lead and set a precedent for the day. Seton Hall led, 16-8, at the 5:43 mark to force Coach Green into calling a timeout and, after two buckets each way, the Rams finished the period on an 8-0 run to make it 20-20 after 10 minutes.

The Pirates led by three, 36-33, at halftime, and again entering the fourth quarter, 50-47, after the two squads alternated holding serve throughout the third. Jonassen's quarter-opening jumper cut the lead to one and, after an Anna DeWolfe midrange shot, it was the graduate forward again with an easy lay-up from Dingle to tie the game, 53-53. However, moments later, Park-Lane's floater put the Pirates ahead for good. Fordham would whittle down a double-digit deficit to three, with a DeWolfe triple capping a 7-0 run with 1:04 to play, but free throws were made and Seton Hall saw out the win.

Dingle matched her career-high of 11 made field goals and finished one point shy of her season-high in scoring, while leading the team with four assists. Jonassen finished one rebound shy of a double-double, posting 14 points on 6-of-11 shooting with a whopping seven offensive rebounds plus two steals, DeWolfe scored 13, and Jada Dapaa netted 11 points and seven rebounds across 23 minutes off the bench. Also off the pine was Matilda Flood, notching four rebounds, two assists, and two blocks in 19 minutes.

The Pirates outshot the Rams, 45.2% to 39.7%, though both teams struggled from distance. Seton Hall converted 4-of-12 long-range attempts, but Fordham shot just 6-of-25 (24.0%). The hosts hit 8-of-10 at the line, while the visitors sank 18-of-27 from the stripe. Both teams grabbed 40 rebounds, 11 on the offensive end.

Fordham has one final nonconference game before 2023 brings the Atlantic 10 slate. The Rams will host former Ram Lauren Murphy and her Post Eagles on Wednesday, December 28th, at 2 p.m.
