The Fordham men's basketball team extended its winning streak into double figures on Sunday afternoon, moving past Central Connecticut State, 90-77, inside the Rose Hill Gym for its 10
th straight victory.
The Rams are in the midst of their first 10-game winning streak in more than three decades. The last Fordham team to win 10 straight did so as part of a 14-game streak in January and February of 1991. That team went on to 25 wins and a Patriot League title.
The victory improved the Rams to 11-1 overall this season, including an unblemished 10-0 mark at home. Fordham has won 11 of its first 12 games for the first time since the historic 1970-71 squad started the year 12-0.
Graduate students
Khalid Moore and
Darius Quisenberry anchored the Rams on Sunday afternoon, as Moore tallied a career-high 25 points and Quisenberry poured in 18. Moore, who scored 20 of his 25 points in the second half, shot 7-of-8 from the field and converted on all three of his 3-point attempts. The Elmont, N.Y., native also went 8-of-9 from the charity stripe. Quisenberry scored all 18 of his points in the opening stanza, going a perfect 6-for-6 from beyond the arc in the period.
Rostik Novitskyi reached double figures for the third time in his last four games, scoring 11 points on 5-of-5 shooting from the floor.
Abdou Tsimbila and
Will Richardson chipped in eight points apiece for the Rams, who eclipsed the 90-point plateau for the second time in their last four outings.
Kyle Rose and
Antrell Charlton each dished out a game-high five assists.
As a team, Fordham shot 56.6 percent (30-of-53) from the field and 50.0 percent (12-of-24) from beyond the arc. The Rams also sank 85.7 percent (18-of-21) of their tries from the charity stripe.
CCSU (1-10) got off to a hot shooting start, taking a 15-12 lead on a Jayden Brown layup with seven minutes gone in the opening half. From there, Fordham outscored the Blue Devils 28-7 over the next 10 minutes, taking its largest lead of the opening period, 40-22, on a Richardson transition bucket with just over three minutes remaining until halftime.
Fordham moved ahead by as many as 23 midway through the second half before a 10-0 CCSU run over the span of just two minutes trimmed the Blue Devil deficit to just 13. CCSU managed to make it a single-digit deficit, clawing within nine, 80-71, at the 3:30 mark, but Fordham answered with a 10-2 run to quell any hopes of a comeback for the visitors.
The Rams will take a break for final exams before returning to action on Thursday, Dec. 22, against VMI at the Rose Hill Gym. The game will tip off at 12 p.m., as Fordham is set to welcome more than 1,000 local school children for Field Trip Day.
