Fordham Hosts MAWPC Championship Starting Friday

Rams Are the Top Seed in the Championship, Looking to Repeat

Bronx, N.Y. – (November 17, 2022) – The 2022 water polo season comes to a head this weekend, as Fordham will play host to the MAWPC Championship at the Messmore Aquatic Center.  A total of 11 teams will head to the Bronx for a chance at the league's automatic berth into the NCAA Championship.
 
Fordham (23-7, 16-0 MAWPC) is the defending champion and top seed in the tournament after posting a perfect 16-0 mark in league action.  George Washington is the #2 seed, followed by #3 Bucknell.  Each of their opponents will be decided based on the results of early Friday games.
 
Fordham will face the winner of McKendree-Gannon at approximately 4:20 PM, while George Washington will meet the winner of Mt. St. Mary's-Johns Hopkins at approximately 5:40 PM.  Bucknell will meet the winner of Navy-Mercyhurst in the final game on Friday at roughly 7:00 PM.  The remaining quarterfinal match will feature #4 seed Wagner against #5 seem Salem.
 
The winners of those four matches move on to Saturday's semifinals at approximately 6:30 PM and 8:00 PM.  The championship final is slated for 3:00 PM on Sunday.
 
GAME COVERAGE: All games will be streamed live on the CWPA Portal through Stretch Internet.  The cost is $10 per game or $25 for the entire weekend.  Live Video (CWPATV)

TICKETS: In-person tickets are $10 for the day or $25 for the full championship pass. Discounted student tickets are available with ID for $5/day or $12/championship.  Entry to seating area is located at the side entrance to Lombardi Center and up the staircase which is where tickets can be purchased. 
 
PARKING: For those driving to Fordham, on-campus parking in the garage is $25/day.  Street parking is also available.

MAWPC HISTORY: Fordham is the defending MAWPC champion after defeating Navy in last year's final by a 9-6 score. Since the advent of the MAWPC Championship in 2016, Bucknell (2016 & 2019) and George Washington (2017 & 2018) also have two titles each.
 
WHAT'S NEXT: The winner of the MAWPC Championship will await to hear their name called on Sunday night, as the 2022 NCAA men's water polo selections will be released at approximately midnight Eastern.  This year's complete field and official bracket will be on NCAA.com. 
 
The top two teams qualify directly into the national championship semifinals, while the remaining six teams selected will compete for the last two berths via four opening-round games. 
 
The championship semifinals and finals will be at Spieker Aquatics Complex in Berkeley, Calif., from Dec. 3-4. The semifinal and national championship rounds will also be streamed live on NCAA.com.
