Bronx, N.Y. – (October 25, 2022) – Princeton's Mateo Godoy netted a pair of goals on Tuesday night to lift the Tigers to a 3-2 win over the Fordham Rams at Jack Coffey Field.
Fordham opened the scoring in the 18
th minute, as an attempted clear in the box by Princeton's Giuliano Whitchurch went right to Fordham's
Timo Hummrich, who quickly drilled a shot into the back of the net for his fourth goal of the season.
Princeton answered that goal with three markers over a 14-minute span. First, Mateo Godoy tied the game in the 25
th minute on a free kick that squeezed its way through two different walls of players from 18 yards out.
Godoy then made it 2-1 just moments later, as he received a pass from Nico Nee, and scored to the right side of the net.
The Tigers then capped the first half outburst in the 38
th minute, when Francis Akomeah knocked in a rebound off an initial shot by Daniel Ittycheria.
Fordham got back within one at 3-2 in the 86
th minute, as off a Princeton defender,
Ben Shepherd collected the loose ball and lobbed a shot into the net over a drawn out goalkeeper. It was his third goal of the year.
The Rams did have a chance to tie the game in the 88
th minute, but
Bennett Leitner's shot was snagged by Khamari Hadaway to give the Tigers the victory.
Fordham will conclude its regular season on Saturday, October 29
th, as the Rams host Loyola Chicago for the final Atlantic 10 contest of the season with a playoff berth on the line. The game is set for 1:00 PM with Senior Day ceremonies set to occur prior to the game.
