Women's Basketball Falls to La Salle on Sunday

Explorers Rally to Upend Rams Late, Snap 12-Game Home Win Streak

Bronx, N.Y. – In the 50th meeting between Fordham and La Salle, the Rams fell, 71-62, at home on Sunday afternoon, snapping their recent five-game win streak and 12-game home win streak, suffering a home defeat for the first time since December 2020. With the result, Fordham falls to 9-4 overall and begins Atlantic 10 play at 0-1, while the Explorers improve to 8-5 and 1-0, respectively.
 
Fordham led by as much as 14 early in the third quarter after leading by 12 at the interval, but the Explorers chipped away and eventually usurped the Rams with a 26-8 fourth quarter, taking their first lead of the game with 3:22 to play.
 
Anna DeWolfe notched a seventh consecutive 20-point game and eighth overall this season by matching her season-high of 28 points a third time on 11-of-18 shooting, matching her career-high in made baskets. The junior played all 40 minutes and added six rebounds, two steals, and an assist. Asiah Dingle was the lone other Ram in double figures, scoring 13 of her 14 points in the first half and adding six boards, three dimes, and a steal before fouling out.
 
Megan Jonassen led the team with eight rebounds, six coming on the offensive glass, adding three points and a pair of assists, while Kaitlyn Downey chipped in seven rebounds, five points, three assists, a steal, and a block over 28 minutes. Kendell Heremaia returned following a one-game absence and posted five points, five rebounds, and two steals over 27 minutes before fouling out, as well, while moving into solo fifth place all-time with her 129th career appearance. Millie Prior returned after four games on the sidelines with three points, three boards, two assists, and two blocks over 25 minutes.
 
The Rams shot 35.4% overall, 33.3% from behind the arc, and 10-of-16 from the free-throw line. La Salle converted 44.6% of its shots, including 16-of-29 in the second half, also shooting 36.8% from distance and 14-of-21 from the stripe. Fordham won the rebounding battle, 38-33, with a whopping 17 rebounds coming on the offensive glass – all seven players had at least one and five had at least two.

Fordham now heads to the road for a pair of contests in Virginia - first at George Mason on Wednesday night at 7 p.m. and then at VCU on Saturday at 1 p.m.
