Bronx, N.Y. – Despite the fact that they are beneficial predators that serve a significant role in keeping populations of many insect pests in check, many humans consider spiders pests. Add the Fordham men's basketball squad to the list of people who despise chelicerates as the University of Richmond variety came into the Rose Hill Gym tonight and defeated the Rams, 83-70, in an Atlantic 10 contest.
With the loss, Fordham falls to 9-7 overall, 2-2 in the Atlantic 10, while Richmond improves to 11-7 overall, 2-3 in the conference.
The Rams were led by graduate student guard
Darius Quisenberry, who scored a team-high 23 points, and he added eight assists and five rebounds, while sophomore guard
Kyle Rose added 16 points, hitting four three-pointers, and recorded three steals. Graduate student forward
Chuba Ohams notched his ninth double-double of the year with ten points and eleven rebounds and sophomore guard
Antrell Charlton also finished in double figures with 13 points.
Fordham trailed by four at the break, 37-33, and managed to knot the game at 40 on a Charlton three 2:17 into the second.
Later in the half another Charlton trifecta cut the Fordham deficit to one, 62-61, with 7:34 remaining. But the Spiders scored ten unanswered points to take a 72-61 lead with just under four minutes left and the closest the Rams would get from that point would be seven, 73-66, on a Charlton basket at the 3:04 mark.
