Newport News, Va. – Fordham volleyball has picked up its first piece of hardware in 2021 with the Atlantic 10 announcing today that sophomore outside hitter
Whitley Moody has earned Player of the Week honors, the first such award of her career after being named Rookie of the Week on three occasions in the Spring. She is also the first Ram to garner Player honors since Kaitlin Morley in 2017.
"A noticeable improvement in our dynamic and efforts between the first weekend and second," Head coach
Ian Choi said, "Defense and tempo and ball location with our setting have enabled Whit opportunities to score. So I'm proud of the squad but Whit certainly deserves the award as she continues to grow her game as a consistent 6 rotation pin."
Moody, the reigning A-10 Rookie of the Year, helped lead the Rams to a 2-1 weekend at the Delaware Invitational, picking up the team's first two victories of the year, over Maryland Eastern Shore and NJIT, while earning a spot on the All-Tournament team alongside
Mallory Lipski. Moody racked up 49 kills, with between 15 and 18 in all three matches, while hitting .333 overall and never worse than .286. The sophomore added 24 digs, including 12 in the sweep of NJIT on Saturday, and seven block assists. She averaged 4.9 kills, 2.4 digs, and 0.7 blocks.
Through two weekends, Moody is second in the Atlantic 10 in kills per set (3.95) and fourth with 83 total, and is seventh in hit percentage (.277).
The Rams return to action this weekend's Jack Kaiser Classic at nearby St. John's and will open with the hosts on Friday at 2 p.m.
