Bronx, N.Y. – (September 26, 2021) – Playing their first home match of the season, the 16
th-ranked Fordham Rams had a tough test on Sunday against the Navy Midshipmen, who entered at #20 in the national poll. The Rams passed that test with flying colors, defeating Navy, 17-10, at the Messmore Aquatic Center.
With the win, Fordham improved to 9-3 on the season, 3-0 in the MAWPC.
After jetting out to a 4-1 lead after the first quarter, the Rams took control in the second behind the play of
Lucas Nieto Jasny. He netted three of the Rams' five goals in the quarter as Fordham increased the lead to 9-4 by halftime.
The third and fourth quarters were more of the same with Fordham outscoring Navy, 4-3, in each period to pull away with the 17-10 victory.
Nieto Jasny was the top performer for Fordham, tying a season-high with five goals to go with three assists.
Jacopo Parrella chipped in three goals, three assists, and two steals, while
Hans Zdolsek, Chistos Loupakis, and
George Papanikolaou each had two goals.
Jason Hiremath,
Nacho Ariste, and
Gabriel Melillo rounded out the scoring with one goal apiece.
In net,
Bailey O'Mara played the majority of the game, recording eight saves, while
Thomas Lercari came on in relief in the fourth quarter, making one save.
Fordham will now head west for their annual California trip for the Gary Troyer Tournament next weekend. The trip starts Thursday, September 30
th with two non-tournament matches at Redlands (6:00 PM) and at Mt. San Antonio (9:30 PM). Then the tournament starts on Friday with Fordham taking on Cal Lutheran, Westcliff, Whittier, and Long Beach State over the course of the next two days.
