Box Score Richmond, Va. – The Fordham volleyball team began Atlantic 10 play with a three-set loss at VCU on Friday evening, 16-25, 21-25, 21-25. With the result, the Rams move to 3-9 overall and 0-1 in league action.
Fordham grew into the match as it went longer but the offensive efficiency of its opponent was enough to keep the visitors at bay long enough to take each frame. Both teams made 16 errors in attack but VCU's 51 kills were 20 more than Fordham's, the former hitting .324 as a squad and the latter hitting .152. The Rams hit .032 in the opening set, .135 in the second, and .290 in the third.
Bella Ureña paced the Rams with 10 kills, hitting .185, with
Aria De La Rosa and
Whitley Moody behind with six and five kills, respectively, followed by
Claire O'Neil's four and three each from
Joey Landeros and
Chloe Pejouan. O'Neil played in just two of the sets and led the offense with a .500 hit percentage on six attacks.
Pejouan's three blocks were a team-high, partnering once apiece with Landeros, Moody, and Ureña.
Mallory Lipski's 13 digs paced the defense with
Megan Brzozowski, who had 15 assists, and Moody had seven each.
Makaela Tanaka played in the final two sets and contributed nine assists and a pair of digs.
Fordham plays tomorrow at Davidson at 6 p.m. There is no video stream for tomorrow's match but there are live stats.
