Queens, N.Y. – The Fordham volleyball team wrapped up play at the Jack Kaiser Classic with a four-set loss to Boston College, 30-32, 19-25, 26-24, 16-25. With the result, the Rams move to 2-7 overall, while the Eagles improve to 9-1.
"This was the most competitive tournament that Fordham's been a part of in a long time and despite the results, it showed we can hang with conference champions, recent NCAA teams, and Power 5 opponents." Head coach
Ian Choi said, "As the team is discovering its identity, I'm realizing the ceiling's very high for this roster."
Sophomore
Whitley Moody led all players with 20 kills, matching her career-high, while junior
Chloe Pejouan set a new career-best with 10, also piling up a match-high nine blocks, as well, a new season-high. The Rams were unlucky to drop a lengthy 32-30 first frame, out-hitting the Eagles, .349 to .302, with four blocks to their one, while set two went Boston College's way from the midway point on with a long run.
The Rams hung around with the Eagles in the third, rallying several times and taking advantage of a service error on match point by BC, sneaking out the win with kills from Pejouan and Bella Ureña. Fordham committed six errors in attack in the fourth, while the Eagles were super-efficient, hitting .424, to take the match.
Joey Landeros, with nine, Ureña, eight, and
Aria De La Rosa, with seven, rounded out the scoring for the Rams. De La Rosa added two aces, Ureña and
Mallory Lipski each with one. Lipski notched 24 digs plus five assists, while
Megan Brzozowski and
Makaela Tanaka shared setting duties, finishing with 30 and 14, respectively. Landeros fell one block shy of her career-high of seven, with De La Rosa and Ureña each tallying three.
Pejouan was named Fordham's lone representative on the Kaiser Classic All-Tournament team.
The Rams next host the 18
th Rose Hill Classic next Friday and Saturday, September 17-18, playing Coppin State and St. Francis Brooklyn at 6 p.m. each day, respectively.
